You may have been told you need elective heart surgery. The word ‘elective’ is a little misleading, because in most cases surgery is not optional, it’s just not immediate. In some cases, a patient needs bypass surgery after a heart attack, but needs to recover first. Sometimes severe coronary artery disease, aortic stenosis or valvular disease has been discovered during a routine exam, but the patient displays little or no symptoms at the time of diagnosis.
American Physicians Network (APN) helps patients find and access affordable Cardiac Surgery treatment options with surgeons who have received their country’s highest standard of certification and completed extensive training, including advanced fellowships. APN can work with you to help you understand your treatment options.

Health Travel Cardiac Surgery Options
For safety reasons, only clients with stable coronary or valve disease seeking elective procedures are eligible for cardiac surgery placement options through American Physician’s Network (APN).
Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
Coronary artery bypass grafting is the gold standard for treatment of multiple vessel or left main coronary artery disease. This procedure has been shown to have the greatest survival benefits for patients.
During this surgery, bypass conduit – veins or arteries – are harvested from the legs, forearm and chest. The cardiac surgeon grafts the conduit to the diseased vessel making a connection to other areas of the heart. This bypasses critical blockages and restores blood flow and nutrients to the heart.
Valve Surgery (including TAVR/ TAVI)
Valve procedures include valve repair, replacement and stenting. While valve disease may affect any of the four cardiac valves, the aortic valve and the mitral valve are the most common.
Depending on the condition of the valve and the type of disease, the cardiac surgeon may choose to repair the valve first. If that is not possible, the valve will be replaced with a bioprosthetic (tissue) or a mechanical (metal) valve.
A newer option for some clients with aortic valve disease is transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). With this procedure, clients are able to have a stented valve replaced without a large open incision (sternotomy).
*However, the TAVR procedure is not for everyone; APN recommends that low-risk patients under 65 consider surgical aortic replacement due to the unknown longevity outcomes with this newer technology.
How much does Cardiac Surgery Cost?
Cardiac Surgery costs are determined by many factors including the type of the procedure and travel costs to the location where the surgery is performed.
If you are a good candidate for Cardiac Surgery, APN will work with you to identify affordable treatment so you can select the option that is best for you.
Is Medical Travel Safe When Used for Cardiac Surgery?
The cardiothoracic surgeons affiliated with APN are recognized as experts in their field and are committed to ensuring the highest level of patient care. As part of our vetting process, APN conducts a thorough review of a patient’s chart and develop a strategic pre-surgical optimization plan.
Here’s one of APN’s clients talking about her recent cardiac surgery (TAVR) experience:
Surgery patients have the best surgical outcomes when the procedure is performed at a high-volume specialty center, like those affiliated with APN.
